Dance the Night Away (so 80's)

Last night my good friend Colleen's 2nd oldest daughter got married. It was a Catholic wedding in a small, country church and then there was a huge reception at the Basque Center in downtown Boise. It was SO much fun.

There was a huge Tiernan representation there and everyone had a blast dancing, lip-synching and goofing off. We saw our daughter break out in random dancing and she had a huge smile on her face all night. I slow-danced with #3 son and watched #2 son do a multitude of air-guitar solos. 80's music was pretty much the theme of the night and I was shocked how all these 15 and 16 year old girls all knew every word to every song. Journey, Boston, Lynyrd Skynyrd (sp?) and the B-52s, they knew it all. It was such a riot.

Later into the evening the song Cotton Eye Joe came on, which was the PERFECT up-tempo song for the group of Tiernan dancers there to dance to (24 in all?). They immediately mobilized and coordinated and before we knew it the whole dance floor was filled with all 24, doing a revved-up, redneck version of one of their favorite soft shoe dances, the Step About. Then it was boys against girls and they fought for the dance floor. After the song was done, I put my hand in the air and called to the deejay: "play it again, again!" and he did, and they did it all over again. Everyone in the room stopped what they were doing and when they were all done gave them a big round of applause. It was so awesome. I said to Colleen, this is why these kids do this! For the love of dance! They have the ability to be able to celebrate in such a specific way. Those kids have some mad skills!
